Rheinfall

On our way home from Zurich we made a pit stop. One of the best pit stops we have ever made!! We stopped at Rheinfall which is on the north bank of the Rhine. It's 490 feet wide and falls down 82 feet.

We started the journey down to the bottom from the Schloss Laufen (a 12th century castle that overlooks the falls). The castle was nothing compared to what was behind it. We almost had to put leashes on the kids to keep them from running all the way to the bottom. The way it is set up is incredible. You can get all the way down to the bottom right at the bottom of the falls. It made me a little queasy, but the kids could not get close enough. I of course suggested that Michael get in the pictures with the kids on those parts and I would stand back and take the pictures.

Once we got to the bottom we took boat rides. One of the rides took us to the second to last picture in this series. Check out the staircase! All of us went up to the top and the walk down was pretty much a straight drop down! Gracie and I didn't last long up there.

After all the excitement we were all ready for a snack and we felt we owed it to ourselves to sample the Swiss beers. Now we just had to find someplace that would make each child happy. It is not fun. One wants chicken nuggets, the other pizza, the other sushi...this is not going to be easy. We settle on a place and Michael takes Gracie in with him to get the food while Jack, Molly and I sit outside. Michael comes out and tells us Gracie is inside with the food, he has to find an ATM because they only take cash. So we all head in.

Lunch...2 beers, 2 plates of chicken nuggets and fries and one plate of currywurst with fries...50 francs!!!! What the heck?

So we are enjoying this VERY expensive lunch and I look at my beer label (as I do often to try to remember the ones I like)...I notice it says alkoholfrei...hmmmm "uh Michael did you see that you got us non - alcoholic beers?" You can probably just imagine his disgust!

We have Spring Break next week. We will be going to Val Thorens France to ski for a couple days! Jack is still traumatized by his experience at Garmish so we'll see how it goes!!!
