Funny kids...

The kids have been making me laugh so hard lately, so I figured I would add it to the blog...
While skiing in France we used the "magic carpets" alot. After a long day of skiing Molly said to me, "Mom, I saw two teenagers on the magic carpet in front of me and they were married. They were really young!" I said, "how do you know they were married?" She looked at me and my sweet innocent baby girl said, "because they were kissing mom, and you have to be married to kiss right?" Michael and I both said, "ABSOLUTELY CORRECT MOLLY!"
I went to pick Jack up from school yesterday and he came out of the garden looking pissed and annoyed. Usually he is all smiles so I asked what was wrong. That child blew his breath out and said, "some kid was breathing on me, he had glasses and well, he was just weird!" God forbid children breathe. :) Then he almost ran over a guy with his bike. When I told him to be careful and not run people over he turned to me and said, "no mom, it's ok, he was smoking so we can run him over". Do you think my anti-smoking campaign is a little to strong?
Lately Gracie has been filling us in on aliens. I don't know where she gets the information (well it's probably from her world in which Taylor Swift is always signing, butterflies are abundant and there is nothing that requires physical exertion). She has told us that aliens catch colds from wearing too many clothes, they eat chicken noodle soup with raw chicken and don't get sick, they eat stone soup at times too. I can't even remember everything, but it's pretty funny!
There are more...I will post them as they come!!

Fruhlingsfest!!!!

We finally got our first taste of a German festival!! This morning started off with Molly's first soccer game and then we took the train into Stuttgart for Fruhlinsfest (all people who speak German, please excuse the spelling...I don't have a German keyboard).

Fruhlingsfest is the Spring Festival that runs for about 3 weeks. It celebrates the beginning of Spring. Let me tell you...the Germans know how to celebrate!!! The festival started at 11 but we didn't get there until about 1:30. We had to leave by 4 so Michael that Michael could catch his flight to Isreal for the week. But 4 was a good time...started to get a bit rowdy for the kids!
There were women dressed in Dirndl (womens German clothing) and men in Lederhosen. It was awesome.
The rides were incredible (and incredibly expensive). You could easily drop 100 Euro in rides within an hour. But thank goodness we did not. We let the kids ride a couple rides and then the kids FINALLY allowed us to enter a beer tent!!! We had our first German Liters and the kids enjoyed some pommes (fries), hanhnchen (chicken), and the most delightful apple dessert. I finallly got to have maultauschen. Oh my goodness...It's almost like an oversized ravioli but better. The Germans put it in broth, or just the Maultauschen with a sauce...oh so stinkin good. My German teacher was telling us about it. She said she was once on Weight Watchers and looked up how many points Maultaschen would be...it would be all of her points for the day!!!
Good day, crazy day..can't wait to go back!!!!

Val Thorens, France

Spring Break...Michael could only get off Thurs and Friday so we planned to go to Val Thorens, France to do some skiing. I had heard from the Patch ski club that the skiing there was amazing, great for kids and guaranteed snow until May! And so we headed to the biggest ski resort in Europe!

It was a 6 1/2 hour drive to Val Thorens and we left here at 3:30. We saw some amazing scenery on the way, but that would be too many pictures to post. We started the ascent to our chalet I had booked at 10:00pm! Let me start by saying I am not good with heights and heights in the dark...even worse. And so the kids were asleep it was pitch black and oh by the way, the road we were driving on was about 1 1/2 car widths wide with no guard rail. On our return we figured out we "accidentally" took the back roads so on the way home we took the main road. I was able to take a picture of the pain I endured on the start of our trip..picture #1!!

So we get to our chalet at 10:30. It was a very small chalet in Praranger, France. About 13 km from Val Thorens. Praranger is at about 2000 meters and Val Thorens is at 3200 meters. Picture number 4 was our walkway to our chalet. Picture number two is what we looked at when we stepped out our door Thursday morning! Amazing! And that was nothing compared to what we would see!

Now the little chalet was cute yes, but there was one thing missing. One very important thing that I had no way of getting. Hmmm.. no stinkin sheets or towels!! Uggg, I had seen it on several website "no linens" but forgot the important part. Uggg. So at 10:30, what am I gonna do??? I did NOT get much sleep that night and I made all of us bath in bleach the next day!

We headed into Val Thorens just to scope things out. See about ski passes, find out where to go and most importantly (to me) find sheets and towels (you will be all happy to know I found towels (9 Euro each) and rented sheets from a laundromat (48 Euro)...worth every cent!

As we walked around the town and were amazed with the weather, the scenery and the market (in which we spent 20 Euro on cheese) Molly had to go to the bathroom about 6 times. Now let me start by saying this, Molly had cried three times that day because she could not ski that day. The child loves to ski. She could not wait to get on the mountain. With that said, I was worried about how much she was going to the bathroom and assumed she had a bladder infection. So I made the poor girl go to medical place on the mountain. Yep, just as she reassured me...she was fine. 32 Euro later...yep no problem, no infection. OK, I'm gonna chalk that one up to just being a good careful parent.

Upon returning to the chalet (after a great day) Gracie asked "mom when do we leave here?" Now I gotta say, you look at these pictures and tell me if you just got there, how soon would you want to leave??? So I answer, "Sunday Gracie" to which she replies, "we're gonna waste our whole vacation here??" How do you answer that??? "Yes my poor 6 year old daughter, we are going to waste 3 days of our lives in this god forsaken beautiful place with this glorious weather, oh and by the way, chances are we will never be here again, but sorry...suck it up" The kid cracks us up!

Day two was beautiful. All of us got our skis and started off on the smaller slopes. The great part was in Val Thorens all of the magic carpets are free and they are all over. So you can ski the smaller slopes for free. During which the boy got a little dinged up. He fell face first...oops! We spent the morning on the magic carpets getting Jack and Gracie comfortable and then they had a lesson at 1. After one look at the two of them skiing "Lionel" decided they needed a lift ticket and was going to take them on some green runs. It was their first time on a lift, but they did great. I was not feeling well so I plopped into a recliner and Molly and Michael headed to the bigger slopes. By 4 I was ready to keel over so we headed back to the house. I slept from 5 that night until 8 the next morning and still felt yucky. I'm thinkin' it was the French cheese and meats we bought at the market. Seriously, typing that out just now made me want to lose my lunch. Don't think I'll be dining "the French way" anytime soon!

When we got back we realized we forgot one little thing...sunblock. The kids fried their faces along with us. We did not feel like very good parents at all. Micheal had to put cold towels on their faces to sleep. Yeah, that doesn't look too good for us.

Our last day I laid in bed and told Michael and Molly to go hit as many big hills as they could. Gracie and Jack decided to stay back to help take care of me. I later felt better so we just walked around and explored our little town. Michael and Molly skied for about 4 hours and seemed to have a great time. He had her on a couple red runs that there is no way my scardy cat booty would have gone on. Kudos to Molly! Michael said he tried several times to get her to the top of the mountain, but she refused...I raised a smart girl. He is going to try to blog about their day together because he was very proud of her.

On our final day we had to head up to Val Thorens to return our rented sheets so we walked around there for awhile. We got the kids sunglasses and some breakfast. Jack and Gracie ordered the crepes. Gracie's had nutella in it (chocolate hazelnut cream) and Jack, well you can see in the picture what was in his breakfast. We ordered Molly eggs thinking it was two hard boiled eggs and it came out seriously about 6 scrambled!!

By the time we were ready to go it was almost a whiteout up there and the temperature was 33 degrees (the family picture and the picture of the Volvo with the kids). As we traveled down the mountain we could not believe how fast the temperature went up. By the time we hit Switzerland (1 1/2 hours away) the temp was sunny and 68!!! It was crazy!

No plans for the upcoming weekend. Michael is headed out of town for a week so that puts a damper on the "family vacation". Without him who would drive??? That's when I catch up on my solitaire tournaments on my phone as well as my reading oh and of course beauty sleep. I guess we could take a train, but then I would have to be responsible for three kids and that' s just not possible with all the other things I have to do when I travel;)
